‘Pleasure Seekers’ & ‘Timewave Zero’ Tees
Posted on July 2, 2012
GrowABrain is producing a range Tees to celebrate the greatest philosophers of the psychedelic revolution. To kick things off we have the Timothy Leary ‘Pleasure Seekers’ Tee. The modern phenomenon of ‘Pleasure Seeking’, is a comment on the distracted society, outlined in Learys ‘The Intelligence Agents’ A work of social, moral, religious and scientific satire, including articles by and about people who are changing the meaning of freedom all over the world. This is the fifth and final volume of Dr. Leary’s ‘Future History Series’ with lots of fun pictures and ideas for your brain!
‘The headlights hypnotise, they take you off towards the sea into the night, you run away from thoughts you cannot hide’
The next on the list is:
Terence Mckenna – Timewave Zero Tee
‘We are on the brink of possibilities that will make us literally unrecognizable to ourselves and those possibilities will be realised, not in the next thousand years but in the next 20 years because the acceleration of invention and novelty and information transfer is at this point so rapid’. Its nearly here! Its all unfolding, to celebrate the Information Revelation be sure to sport one of these tees. If you are not familiar with Terence Mckenna’s Transmissions be sure to check out some of his videos on the global information network, thats right on schedule.

El Penguini
Posted on July 1, 2012
I thought I’d seen the last of penguins for 2012! I couldn’t have been more wrong. I was recently asked to produce a ‘Mexican Penguin’ character/logo for a casino. ‘El Penguini’ was born, El P to his friends. I love that Ive been able to utilise lucky 7 and unlucky for some! 13 in the lottery balls, they are my favourite magik numbers and beautifully my missus’ birthday is 13/7.
Here is an earlier version, I am quite fond of. Looks more like a mean ol’ crow but he is not without his charm.
I took inspiration from a Sombrero I used to sport on my first ever website back in 2006 after a trip to Mexico, Christ that was alot of work rendering those silver Mayan buttons!

GrowABrain for ‘Charlie Does’
Posted on June 30, 2012
GrowABrain has teamed up with Charlie Does, a Filipino surf shop, to design a range of Tees to celebrate their story:
In 1979 Francis Ford Coppola released the epic film Apocolypse Now. If you don’t know it, it would be a good idea to watch it. It is amazing. The movie was located in and around a small and sleepy town called Baler which sits right on the pacific and is surrounded by the ever visible Siera Madre – which literally means Mountain Mother, though more like should be understood as: ‘That is one Mother of a Mountain’.
Most of the famous scenes of the movie were shot in Baler, or a place a little way out of the town called Charlie’s Point.
Balerino surfers owe a great gratitude to the movie, not least because when production ended the team left all the surfboards for the locals.
The most famous line of the movie goes like this:
Some GI: ‘Its pretty hairy in there. I mean it’s Charlie’s point!’
Lt. Kilgore: ‘CHARLIE DON’T SURF’
Well, Charlie Does!
Here are the first two GrowABrain designs from the ‘Goofy’ collection:

Rick Griffin Text Experiments
Posted on May 30, 2012
As part of my ongoing fascination with this Great mans work, I have been occupationally trying to find a digital formula to create Griffinesque text without the need to hand render the linework.
It’s the graphic equivalent of alchemy, turning lead into gold, of course its impossible to capture Griffin’s beautiful nuances of line and deft of touch but the basic structure is almost there.
I just wanted to share with you where I am at, the Holy grail would be to be able to use this Griffinesque text in Graphic work at the touch of a button… not there yet!
Using an edited FREE font ‘Hendrix’ here is the result from rendering 3D text in illustrator and stroking the gradient once the tonal values have been expanded. The offset tool is used to create the lettering border. ‘Bad Acid’ is also a great Rick inspired FREE font.
